Proton Music was founded in April of 2005 by Proton Radio director and Particles host Jason Wohlstadter (aka Jay Epoch). The inspiration for the label came from it's first release, "Fingerpaint" by Digital Witchcraft, which at the time was having trouble finding a home.
The label aims to capture the variety of genres played on Proton Radio while keeping true to Jay Epoch's musical taste: atmospheric and melodic electronica. The next release on Proton Music comes from Russian producer Alex Rize (aka Alexei Lapshin), who has released on labels such as Silk Sofa, Carica, and Morphosis, and Particles. The original mix of "Beyond The Dome" was also originally released as part of the first "Silk Way LP" in collaboration with Russian label Silk Digital and now gets a full single release.
Electronica inspired sci-fi bleeps and tweaks combined with atmospheric synth stabs & melodies. This describes the original track here very well, which also includes a breakbeat with glitchy percussion lines. These elements make this track an intriguing experience for the listener; it surely has a very unique atmosphere.
The first remix comes from Habersham from the US, who has had his tracks featured on many compilations, including Renaissance and Global Underground. He manages the label Lobotomy Records with Phil Martinez which mainly releases techno and electronica music. These genres are not far from his remix of "Beyond The Dome" at all; extremely deep synth lines and mesmerizing beats are the main elements here. Tweaked effects, bleeps, and a gorgeous breakdown make it even more interesting.
A person who has already released a great deal of various originals and remixes on Proton labels is His Boy Elroy, who delivers the second remix for this package. The smooth beat and the bassline play very well together and the melodic elements of this remix create a cheerful atmosphere. The bleepy sounds and melodies are accompanied by an enjoyable guitar lead and other synth lines; these definitely make this remix even more interesting and inviting.
Elfsong and Aeron Aether are well-known names in the melodic progressive house scene; they have both released music on various labels such as Tilth, Morphosis, and Toes In The Sand, and Elfsong has even written a track called "Minutiae" together with Alex Rize which was released on Russian label Silk Sofa Music (here Aeron Aether also provided a remix). Their remix includes a blissful break with mood-setting melodies; the flute and pads do a great job here. The beat and bassline together is a rhythmic and groovy combination that, together with the melodies, create a very fine atmosphere.
From Italy comes Cassino & Labčn who are no newcomers either. They are consistent contributors to the Particles label, but they have also released music on Bellarine, Aenaria, and Babylon to name a few. One of their newest tracks on Particles, "Dancing", was remixed by Alex Rize. Additionally, they host the show "Flux" on Proton Radio. Their remix, which is the 4th of this package, quickly turns into a deep and groovy monster. A great deal of different melodies and effects combined with numerous percussion lines are the main elements of this remix. The break with its deep stab lines and thrilling sound effects finally leads up to an even more rhythmic part of the track with new intriguing elements.
Danny Lloyd, also from Italy, delivers the 5th and final remix of "Beyond The Dome". He has had music released on labels such as Bellarine, Hunya Munya, and Presslab, and his track "Music Parfums" was also remixed by Cassino & Labčn. A firm and straightforward beat combined with hard hitting stabs and various effects are effective elements which, along with the deep, rolling bassline, create a very deep and enjoyable soundscape, and the pads on top of it all most definitely do not make it any worse.
