Sydney's Steve Marx has been a regular fixture on the London club scene for over a decade now after making the move from his hometown in 1996. A regular on the Sydney scene, Steve could be found at the infamous Hordern Pavillion parties in the late eighties and early nineties where he developed his interest in electronic music by leading the charge at clubs such as Base and The Front.

Having made the move to London, he quickly discovered a taste for nights like Cream and Tyrant and soon got himself in amongst the smaller nights where an exciting underground scene was developing alongside the rise of the superclub. It was in 1999 where he met Ben Clarke and Francis Mallinson and the Synchronize parties were born.

I first met him in 2002, where he could be often be found in Plastic Fantastic Records or at Digression in Soho, where up and coming DJs mixed with other arty types sharing a beer and common musical ideas. Maybe it was that year that made the man, as he co-organised with Nick Dawes the Shadow 001 event at the Fortress Studios for World DJ day, playing alongside Rowan Blades, Paolo Mojo and Jonathan Lisle in an event where proceeds went to The Nordoff Robbins Children's Charity. Guest slots at The Fez Club, Sacred & many of London's intimate smaller nights followed.

In 2004, our paths crossed again, with Steve rocking the breaks room at Twisted Melon at the Rhythm Factory alongside Disposable Breaks. It was nights like these that would prove to be the genesis of greater things taking Twisted melon to Romania with then residents Ben Clarke and Francis Mallinson.

In 2006 he and long time friend Ben Clarke started the weekly Loop Music Mix Show for Reticent Radio. The show continues to expand its fan base (approx 2000 individual listeners each week), showcasing the best in house, techno, progressive, breaks and even drum n' bass with no underground genre overlooked with sets from the worlds best and up and coming DJ's.

Loop music have also promoted a number of excellent underground parties, most notably the exclusive SW More parties, the SW4 after party of choice for the progressive set over the past three years. European summer road trips to Switzerland and Romania paralleled with London events and his reputation continued to grow. Playing a varied mix of tough, melodic and four to the floor house and techno alongside up for it breaks has given him a broad appeal and recent highlights have seen him win guest slots at Twisted Audio, Beatfreak & MOS for Twisted Audio with Sander Kleinenberg. Often specialising in the closing set, he knows how to work a room, through skillful programming, expert track selection and above all tight mixing, Steve is always an entertainer, both behind the decks and on the dancefloor.

In December 2007, Steve played perhaps one of his finest gigs to date in the Baby Box at Ministry of Sound, guesting for Twisted Audio at Renaissance. Despite the fact that Sasha was due on in the main room, his crowd remained rooted to the floor and were treated to a master class in Steve's big room sound.

When not DJing, he can be found out and about at Bedrock, Renaissance and Twisted Audio. An annual trip back to his homeland, to play at Sydney's summer Christmas parties is always a fixture and these days too. He is as comfortable with CDJ's and new technologies like Serato Scratch ways been behind the 1210s. In fact, it's likely he will still be here in London for another decade or so. Passions like this tend to persist and with gigs up and coming in Romania, Lithuania, Charlotte (USA) and of course London this summer, you can expect to see much more of this likeable Australian, that much is assured.
